During the day, I can avoid thinking about alcohol, but when the night comes, I can feel the urge forming at the back of my mind. Once that happens, I know that I won’t be able to hold on for much longer and that the overbearing desire to drown my sorrows will result in me getting blackout drunk in from of my computer once again.

I tried to replace drinking with other activities, but all of that seems like such a chore nowadays. Practicing sports and laughing with my friends were the things that kept me sane during the earlier years of my life, but now I cannot find the joy in it any longer.

I keep stumbling upon other people’s stories, where they found the activities that kept them on the straight path, but I have no idea about where to start. Can you help me? I’m getting desperate over here…

I’m sorry to say this, but I don’t think that finding a hobby will be enough to stop your addiction. I might be jumping to conclusions here, but it appears to me that you’ve already developed obsessive thoughts about alcohol and when that happens, getting professional help is the only solution. Trust me, I have seen this play out before. The sooner you get help, the better it will be...

Yeah, well, you didn't really help there, buddy! Anyway, if anyone else is reading this, I want you to know that I had my ups and down with this struggle, and I still do. But I have to say that in recent weeks, I'm beginning to feel more confident that one day, I will be able to put a stop to my troubles once and for all. I don't know when that day will come, but I'm optimistic about my chances. I will be able to make it, no matter what you say!
